Seasonality in soil temperature may drive the seasonal dynamics of carbonate?derived CO 2 efflux in a calcareous soil

چکیده

Carbonates in soils may act as a potential source of CO? efflux from calcareous to the atmosphere. However, its seasonal dynamics and relationships with soil temperature or moisture are not well?understood. A 5?yr warming experiment was performed evaluate effects symmetric (all season) asymmetric (seasonal) on organic fraction (SOC)?derived carbonate?derived (partitioned by ?¹³C signature) karst region southwest China. In where precipitation mostly falls during summer, an average 2.0°C under both scenarios produced 6–34% 11–14% increases SOC?derived efflux, respectively. The scenario 1.6 times that scenarios, but no changes were found for efflux. positively correlated moisture, suggesting entailment biotic processes. contrast, temperature, poorly moisture. Thus, likely driven abiotic

Root-derived CO(2) efflux via xylem stream rivals soil CO(2) efflux.

Respiration consumes a large portion of annual gross primary productivity in forest ecosystems and is dominated by belowground metabolism. Here, we present evidence of a previously unaccounted for internal CO(2) flux of large magnitude from tree roots through stems. If this pattern is shown to persist over time and in other forests, it suggests that belowground respiration has been grossly unde...

Transport of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in a Calcareous Wetland Soil

Knowledge of transport and degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is important in assessing PAH contamination of soils and water resources. The transport of naphthalene, anthracene, pyrene and phenanthrene was determined in a contaminated calcareous soil obtained from the Shadegan wetland (Khozestan, Iran) considering a column study in laboratory conditions. The PAHs were added ...

Hardwood biochar and manure co-application to a calcareous soil.

Biochar may affect the mineralization rate of labile organic C sources such as manures via microbial community shifts, and subsequently affect nutrient release. In order to ascertain the positive or negative priming effect of biochar on manure, dairy manure (2% by wt.) and a hardwood-based, fast pyrolysis biochar were applied (0%, 1%, 2%, and 10% by wt.) to a calcareous soil. Destructive sampli...

Seasonal dynamics of soil carbon dioxide efflux and simulated rhizosphere respiration in a beech forest.

Respiration of the rhizosphere in a beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) forest was calculated by subtracting microbial respiration associated with organic matter decomposition from daily mean soil CO2 efflux. We used a semi-mechanistic soil organic matter model to simulate microbial respiration, which was validated against "no roots" data from trenched subplots. Rhizosphere respiration exhibited pronoun...
